Alan McFerran MCSP HCPC AACP

As well as driving McFerran Physio, Alan also works as a First Contact Physiotherapist with the Gordano Valley Primary Care Network. In this role he is the first point of contact for thousands of patients who are suffering with back and neck pain, shoulder pain, hip and knee pain and foot and ankle pain. He is also able to use his skills as an injecting clinician by administering corticosteroid injections.

Prior to this role, Alan was under 21 and first team Physiotherapist at Bristol City Football Club for 11 years. As such, he has worked with hundreds of professional athletes which involved diagnosing, treating and overseeing the rehabilitation of injured footballers. He also played an active role in preventing injuries, assessing players’ wellbeing and developing personalised programmes to help improve their performance.

Having graduated from The University of Manchester in 2005, Alan spent 6 years working as a Physiotherapist in Ireland, where he practiced in a variety of clinical settings including orthopaedics, neuro and stroke rehabilitation and musculoskeletal outpatients.

In Ireland, Alan was also Physiotherapist to a variety of Rugby and Gaelic Football teams, as well as Dundalk FC, regular League of Ireland Premier champions in recent years. After moving to Bristol to take up his role at Bristol City in 2011, Alan was Assistant First Team Physio, helping the Robins secure the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and League 1 double in 2015. He has also played a key role in the development of the club’s Academy footballers, many of whom are now professional footballers with either Bristol City or elsewhere in the league.

Alan’s reputation has also earned him international recognition as Physiotherapist for Republic of Ireland Under 21 and Under 19 training camps.

As well as his BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy, Alan currently holds a diploma with the Society of Musculoskeletal Medicine and is currently undertaking an MSc with the same organisation. He also holds a further diploma in the theory and practice of injection therapy whereby the Society of Musculoskeletal Medicine have assessed him as safe and competent in the practice of injections.

He is registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC), the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP).

Alan is registered to see patients and clients on behalf of most major health insurance companies, including Aviva, Cigna, WPA, BHSF and Simply Health.
